UAT Launching People living with HIV and People with disability leaque: Breaking the Silence and unveiling the Intersectional Crisis Facing them
United Africans Transformation (UAT) is sounding the alarm on the critical intersectional challenges faced by individuals living with HIV and disabilities.
Despite progress in antiretroviral therapy (ART) access, with 77% of adults living with HIV receiving treatment in 2023 (UNAIDS), a 5% funding drop from 2022 to 2023 threatens sustainability.
The intersectional crisis faced by people living with HIV and disabilities is a stark reminder of the systemic inequalities that persist in our society.
It is unacceptable that individuals who are already vulnerable to marginalization and exclusion are being further pushed to the fringes.
United Africans Transformation is proud to launched the groundbreaking initiative, The HIV+ DISABILITY platform.
This innovative program promotes inclusivity, Empowerment, and social justice for people living with HIV and disabilities UAT has formed this innovative initiative that promotes inclusivity and empowerment.
The ideas are to create a platform where people living with HIV and disabilities can come to, share experiences, and advocate for their rights.
They will raise awareness to educate party members and the general public about the challenges faced by people living with HIV and disabilities.
It will promote inclusivity by encouraging the participation of people living with HIV and disabilities in party activities and decisions-making processes.
The platform will push for laws that protect the rights of people living with HIV and disabilities.
As UAT we strive for the following:
1. To combat stigma, discrimination, and marginalization through education, awareness, and community engagement.
2. Promote inclusive policies that ensure equal access to healthcare, education, and employment opportunities.
3. Ensure accessibility in public spaces, transportation, and communication systems to facilitate full participation.
4. Support community-led initiatives and organizations that provide vital services and support.
The launch will also be a call on government, policymakers, and stakeholders to join us in demanding action and creating a more inclusive, equitable society for all.
We must work together to address the systemic inequalities that perpetuate this crisis.
The time for silence is over.
It’s time to break the silence and demand justice, equality, and human rights for all individuals living with HIV and disabilities.
