DA Tshwane Caucus Leader

Up to now the ANC-EFF-ActionSA mayor of Tshwane Nasiphi Moya has not had a vision or agenda of her own.

She has been cutting ribbons on work done under the DA’s leadership, when she was the deputy mayor.

At the same time she wants to blame failures on us.

The DA and our coalition partners left Tshwane with a strategy for financial recovery, energy independence, and improved service delivery.

We took difficult decisions, and achieved big progress in the last 18 months of our administration.

While this strategy has not been revoked by the ANC coalition mayor, she seems to rely mostly on raising rates and taxes despite a cost-of-living crisis in SA.

Not satisfied with the 25% increase in revenue by Tshwane from property rates as from 1 July, the mayor wants to introduce a new tax — the city cleansing levy.

Her party ActionSA has already helped the ANC in Parliament to pass higher VAT as from 1 May.

In her first budget decision, she gave priority to water tankering contractors and security companies doing business with the city.

Her ANC deputy mayor Bonzo Modise has links to one of these security companies.

He is on record (saying in a council meeting) that if the mayor doesn’t do what the ANC says, she will be removed.

Money has been taken away from water and electricity, and so the city has been hit by a spate of unattended electricity outages from Sosha to Centurion and Waltloo Industrial.

Tshwane residents are sick and tired of coalition choas and parties like ActionSA who are manipulated and used by the ANC.

The voters will have their say in 2026. In the meantime, the mayor must take care, and not do lasting damage to the capital city.
