Under the command of Acting district commissioner Brigadier Samuel Thine, Team Tshwane continued to inforce the law and to show commitment in combating crime in the capital.
This operation was executed with coordination among various agencies, including the Departments of Home Affairs, Labour, Gauteng Traffic Department, Tshwane Metro Police Department, Crime Prevention Wardens, Community Policing Forum from the respective stations, and elected Councillors. Additionally, members from different SAPS stations and units operating within the Tshwane Policing area played pivotal roles.
The operation entailed high-visibility patrols in crime hotspots, compliance inspections, and raids on illicit liquor outlets.
Throughout the operation, Tshwane Detective teams successfully apprehended 314 suspects. Among them were 85 individuals involved in gender-based violence, 11 for murder, 3 for attempted murder, 4 involved in armed robbery and 5 arrested for rape.
Three uniformed groups, comprising of two tactical teams and a roadblock group, were tasked to police the areas of Brooklyn and Kameeldrift on Thursday.
Tshwane District spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk told the Tshwane Talks that the tactical groups inspected 15 liquor premises with 2 not being compliant with the liquor act and liquor totaling 22 410 ml were confiscated and will be destroyed upon finalization of the criminal cases.
56 undocumented immigrants were detained and will undergo deportation once the legal processes have been finalized with 2 persons for employing undocumented immigrants.
“Our men and women in blue are working hard, day and night to keep the residents of Tshwane safe all the time,” said Warrant Officer Van Dyk.
He said 6 persons were arrested for possession of drugs when 25 ziplock plastic bags containing various narcotics were found in their possession.
1 person found himselve behind bars for the possession of 62 000 illicit cigarettes.
1 person was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol with 1 person being arrested for drinking in public, 2 for assault and 1 for theft.
“Throughout the operation’s duration, a total of 482 persons, 258 vehicles and 10 premises were searched.
93 Aarto infringement notices were issued totaling R 46 250,” he said.
Warrant Officer Van Dyk said the department of Labour inspected 10 business and subsequently issued 3 businesses with contravention and improvement notices.
“We are appeal to communities to please report crime to police and not to take law into their own hands.
If they see any suspicious activity we urge them to call the SAPS and together we can win this war of crime in our country,” said Van Dyk.
