A multidisciplinary crime prevention operation conducted in the Tshwane District has led to the arrest of 345 suspects for various criminal offences.
The operation, led by Tshwane District Commissioner, Major-General Samuel Thine, was carried out on Thursday, 11 June 2026, within the policing precincts of Ga-Rankuwa and Mabopane.
The operation brought together several law enforcement agencies and stakeholders, including the Department of Home Affairs, Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD), Gauteng Traffic Police, and Community Policing Forums (CPFs).
Their collaborative efforts strengthened the operational impact and contributed significantly to the successful outcomes achieved during the day.
As part of the operation, district detectives launched intensive tracing activities from Wednesday evening through to the early hours of Thursday morning.
These efforts resulted in the arrest of 273 wanted suspects linked to serious and violent crimes, including murder, attempted murder, and armed robbery.
Compliance inspections conducted during the operation also focused on immigration and business-related matters.
Police detained 53 illegal immigrants who were handed over to immigration officials for further processing and deportation.
In addition, two second-hand goods dealerships were found to be operating in contravention of the Second-Hand Goods Act and were subsequently fined.
Efforts to address liquor-related offences saw law enforcement teams inspect 20 liquor outlets. Eight establishments were closed for failing to comply with the provisions of the Liquor Act.
During these inspections, police confiscated 471 bottles of 830ml liquor as well as an illegal gambling machine.
High-density patrols and roadblocks were conducted throughout identified hotspot areas, during which 658 individuals and 321 vehicles were searched.
Traffic law enforcement officials issued 138 AARTO infringement notices with a combined value of R68 400, while 23 taxis were impounded for contraventions of the National Road Traffic Act.
Crime prevention patrols further yielded positive results when three suspects were arrested for the possession and dealing of drugs.
Police recovered 19 ziplock bags containing various drugs, as well as an undisclosed amount of cash believed to be linked to illegal drug activities.
Major-General Samuel Thine commended all participating members and stakeholders for their commitment and professionalism.
He reiterated that sustained collaboration between law enforcement agencies and community structures remains essential in the ongoing fight against crime and in ensuring safer communities throughout the Tshwane District.
