Executive Mayor of Tshwane

The City of Tshwane congratulates the South African Reserve Bank on the official opening of its newly renovated museum in South Africa’s capital city.

This important addition to Tshwane’s cultural and educational landscape further
strengthens our city’s position as a centre of learning, heritage, innovation and public institutions.

The opening of this museum is a welcome investment in the capital city and reflects growing confidence in Tshwane’s future as a well-governed, attractive and vibrant place to live, work, visit and invest.

The museum provides residents, visitors, learners and students with a unique
opportunity to better understand the history of South Africa’s currency, the role of the Reserve Bank and the importance of financial and economic literacy in building a prosperous society.

We particularly welcome the museum’s commitment to public education and youth
outreach, which will help inspire a new generation of South Africans to engage with
economics, finance and nation-building.

By making its extensive collection of South African artworks accessible to the public,
the Reserve Bank is also making an important contribution to preserving and
celebrating our shared heritage while enriching the cultural offering of the capital city.

As we continue to improve governance, restore public confidence and create an
environment conducive to growth and investment, institutions such as the South
African Reserve Bank and initiatives such as this museum play an important role in
strengthening trust in public institutions and promoting greater understanding of the
foundations of a stable and inclusive economy.

We commend the South African Reserve Bank, Governor Lesetja Kganyago and all those involved in bringing this important project to fruition and look forward to the positive impact the museum will have on residents and visitors alike.
