As the South African Police Service (SAPS) observes Women’s Month, it is intensifying its fight against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF), including the tracing and apprehension of suspects wanted in connection with crimes against women, children and vulnerable groups.

In this regard, the SAPS is calling on 27-year-old Simiso Silomo Phakathi to hand himself over to the nearest police station after his live-in girlfriend 37-year-old Jabulisile Josephina Tshabalala was found stabbed to death, in Orlando East, Soweto.

Tshabalala was last seen alive on 7 August 2026. Her body was discovered on 13 August 2026 inside the backroom where she had been residing with the suspect.

She had allegedly been stabbed to death and her body was found covered with blankets and clothes.

A J50 warrant of arrest for murder has been issued against Phakathi.

The SAPS is issuing a firm warning to the suspect: hand yourself over to the police at the nearest police station without delay.

There is nowhere to hide, and police will continue pursuing every lead until you are brought before a court of law.

The suspect is considered dangerous.

Anyone who sees Phakathi or has information on his whereabouts is urged to immediately contact Warrant Officer Zwane on 082 455 8572 or report to the nearest police station.

The SAPS also appeals to anyone who may have information that could assist investigators to come forward.

Do not harbour or assist a wanted suspect.

Information provided to the police could be critical in ensuring that justice is served.

As the country marks Women’s Month, the SAPS reiterates that violence against women will not be tolerated.

Those responsible for such heinous crimes will be pursued and brought before the courts to face the full might of the law.
