The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomes the ruling by Mamelodi Magistrates’ Court to deny bail to Tebogo Mnisi (38) from Extension 17, Mamelodi East who is facing two counts of premeditated murder of two Mamelodi cousins, attempted murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm, and possession of unlawful ammunition.
It is alleged that during the early hours of 26 October 2025, the accused shot and killed his girlfriend, Tshiyamo Sweetness Moramaga (22), and her cousin, Boleseng Mirandah Moramaga (21).
He also allegedly attempted to kill their friend, Desmond Semang (27), who was with the two women at Small Konka Tavern in Mamelodi East that night.
Following police investigations, the accused was arrested at a garage on Solomon Mahlangu Drive on 27 October 2025.
During the bail proceedings, the accused, through his legal representative, applied to be released on R2000 bail, stating that he is the sole breadwinner for his three children and his mother, he has a business that is financially suffering as he is in custody, and that he handed himself over to the police.
However, State Prosecutor Advocate Tsheko Mphake opposed the application, arguing that the accused is facing serious charges, he is a danger to himself as he allegedly tried killing himself after committing the offence.
Furthermore, Adv Mphake argued that the accused may threaten the surviving witness since he is known to him.
In addition, the prosecutor said releasing the accused on bail will also cause community uproar, resulting in the community taking matters into their own hands as they did before by burning down his house, and that considering the lengthy jail time the accused might serve, he may evade his trial and flee to Limpopo, as he did after committing the offence.
The Magistrate agreed with the state that the accused is facing serious charges and if released on bail, he might interfere with the witness.
Furthermore, the magistrate said that the accused failed to provide proof of his business and that he is the sole breadwinner of his family, and that releasing him on bail will jeopardise society’s confidence in the justice system.
Bail was accordingly denied.
The matter was postponed to 20 July 2026 for outcome of ballistic report.
