The Moral Regeneration Movement (MRM)in the North West appealed for calm and urged police not to leave any stone unturned in their investigation into the brutal murder of community activist, Daniel Letsie Makhabe also known as Mokoena.

The 40-year-old community activist also linked with Potch4Palestine was reportedly shot dead in a hail of bullets on Wednesday evening at Hashtag Informal settlement, Sonderwater in Ikageng.

“We are deeply saddened by this horrendous incident which has sent a shock wave across our communities. We wish to express our deepest condolences to the Makhabe family as well as convey our well wishes to the hospitalized victim who reportedly sustained a gunshot shot to the head a speedy recovery,” highlighted MRM Provincial Convenor, Pastor Lesiba Kgwele.

According to Provincial SAPS Spokesperson, Sergeant Kelebogile Morake, police responded to a shooting incident and, upon arrival at the scene, found spent cartridges and life ammunition lying on the ground.

A bystander reportedly informed police that two injured victims had already been rushed to a local hospital.

Upon their arrival at the hospital medical personnel to police confirmed that the victims had been transported there in a private vehicle.

Kgwele urged members of the public to assist police investigators uncover the motive and those behind the cold-blooded murder.

“Until the heartless murderer/s are behind bars, no one in our communities will feel safe. Those responsible for the heinous and ghastly acts should be speedily unmasked, disarmed and removed from society to restore public confidence in the criminal justice system,” he remarked.

Kgwele expressed MRM ‘s concern regarding the recent spate of senseless violent crimes that seem to be targeting community activists.

“While we don’t want to speculate as to the motives behind the Wednesday killings, the speedy conclusion of an in-depth probe would reassure our communities that their collective safety is not threatened by a new wave of criminality involving desperate extortionists, gangsterism or other nefarious interests,” he stressed.
