City of Tshwane MMC of human settlement Ofentse Madzebatela joined by environmental scientist of the city and City’s microbiologists to an oversight inspection on water tankers as well as conducting random spot tests on the water carried through five water tankers in New Eersterus region 2 Hammanskraal, Tshwane on Monday.
These tankers deliver water to the areas of Spin City, Trust Farm, Phophola, Phomolong, Hammanskraal Ext 2, Kanana, Nkandla, Chris Hani Block G, Kudube Unit 10, Hammanskraal Portion 9, New Eersterus Ext 8, Marikana and Soutpan.
City of Tshwane MMC of human settlement MMC Ofentse Madzebatela said we come to check the quality of the water that are carried by through this water tankers and check the water tankers cleanliness and also to check the kind of water they are delivering. We have done the test which include physical as well as micro biological test. These are microbiology tests that are meant to check for foreign elements such as ammonia phosphate, nitrates and others. The test also included checking the PH levels of the water.
In testing weather there are any foreign element that can cause harm or sickness to the residents who are receiving this water.
“The City remains committed to ensuring that the water provided to our residents through mobile water tankers is consumable and up to the required standards,” he said.
He said we will continue to conduct random spots test on the water carried by mobile in particular in region 2 (Rooiwal and Hammanskraal areas).
The city provides rudimentary water services through 278 mobile water tankers in identified informal settlements spread across the seven regions.
Residents of Tshwane must be rest assured and all those who are receiving water from water tankers its remain priority of the city to ensure that eventually we get water through the taps through bulk supply and in the meantime while delivering this water through water tankers we will ensure that this water tankers supply quality drinkable water and it remain our priority.

The provision of clean and quality water will remain a priority of the multiparty government,” he said.
MMC Madzebatela said there are 293 527 households that benefit from this service. The breakdown of the number of water tankers per region is as follows: • Region 1: 46 • Region 5: 53 • Region 2: 52 • Region 6: 33 • Region 3: 39 • Region 7: 31 • Region 4: 24.
