The community of Skierliek in the far east of Mamelodi in Tshwane is outraged at the owner of pitbull dogs that bite passersby in the area.

A man was mauled to death by the dogs on Sunday morning and community members demand action to be taken against the dog owner.

They also demand that the dogs be removed from the man and be put down.

The community say the latest victim, Moses Mhlanga (52) is the third person to be killed by the dogs this year.

Moses was on his way to fetch firewood in the nearby bushes and went past a plot.

It is alleged that the dogs attacked Moses and bit him to death while the owner did nothing to stop the dogs from mauling the deceased.

Thobile Magagula told Tshwane Talks that his uncle, Moses, always fetched firewood in the bushes on a regular basis because they experience lots of power cuts so they use the wood to cook and warm themselves up.

“We received call that our uncle is hurt and we rushed to the scene only find his lifeless body mauled by the vicious dogs.

My uncle died in a brutal way. He was a bread winner for our family and now that he was killed there will be hunger in the family since he also has a four-year-old child.

Our family demand justice especially since the dog owner did not show any
remorse for his dogs’ actions,” Magagula said.

“We will dearly miss my uncle who was a humble man and loved by everyone in the family, community and the church”. Thobile concluded.

Community member Lehlogonolo Raisibe said over the years there have been many people who fell victim to the dogs and some of them have scars to show for it.

Last year in August, the dogs from the same plot attacked and mauled the late Hector Sandile Mhlongo (31) to death and no action was taken.

“We want justice and we want to see action taken this time we are tired of the same dog killing people,” Raisibe said.

Gauteng Police spokesperson ,Colonel Mavela Masondo, said the dogs belong to the farm owner who cannot be named because he is not yet charged and did not appear in court.

An inquiry docket was opened for investigation and to establish the cause of death.

“Once the investigation is complete, the docket will be taken to the NPA for a decision on whether to
prosecute or not,” he said
