GRASSROOTS ORGANISATIONS UNDER UCM BANNER RESPOND TO RAMAPHOSA’S SPEECH

Several grassroots organisations met at the Premier Hotel in Tshwane on Friday to release a media statement in response to President Cyril Ramaphosa’ speech on the issue of illegal immigration.

Ramaphosa made the speech on speech last Sunday, resulting in several people and organisations expressing their dissatisfaction about it.

The said grassroots organisations, which now fall under the banner of United Civic Movements are as follows:

1.Rachel Makhubela from Defend South Africa read the joint statement released by the organisation’s falling under the United Civic Movements

2.Put South Africa First, represented by Faith Mabusela who spoke about national sovereignty and border security.

3.South African Union of Spaza Shops, represented by Teboho Reginald Selelane who focused on the impact of illegal immigration on employment and economic opportunities.

4.Mandisa Xulu from Community Organisation for Transformation and Implementation (CoTi), who spoke about the pressure placed by illegal immigration on public services like healthcare, housing and education.

5.Nomuntu Maseko of Defend South Africa spoke about the fitness of the government in resolving the immigration crisis.

At the same meeting Mthetho Ngcukayithobi, who is the President of Progressive Forces of South Africa also spoke in critical terms against President Ramaphosa’s speech.

Mthunzi Luthuli from Progressive Civic Congress also criticised Ramaphosa’s speech while at the same time sending a strong-worded message to leaders of all countries on the African continent regarding the immigration crisis caused by people coming from African countries and other parts of the world.
