The Security Personnel Party of South Africa notes with concern the muted participation of major South African corporations in promoting Bafana Bafana during this FIFA World Cup.

We recall how, during the Rugby World Cup, many of these same companies mobilized nationwide campaigns, required employees to wear Springbok jerseys, and used their platforms to rally behind the national team.

That unity was powerful and patriotic.

Yet now, with Bafana Bafana representing South Africa on football’s biggest stage, that same energy is missing.

Football is the sport of the masses.

It carries the hopes of millions in our townships and working-class communities.

For corporations to go silent now sends the wrong message about who and what they choose to celebrate as “South African”.

SPPSA calls on big business to show the same pride, investment, and visible support for Bafana Bafana that they showed for the Springboks. Fly the flag.

Wear the jersey.

Back the team.

Nation-building cannot be selective.

Bafana Bafana deserves the full weight of corporate South Africa behind them.

When the team wins, South Africa wins.
