On Tuesday, 08 April 2025, the District Commissioner of Tshwane, Major-General Samuel Thine, hosted a certificate handover ceremony to recognise and applaud SAPS members for their exceptional commitment and dedication in combating crime and ensuring the safety of their communities.
Members from various components within the Tshwane policing precinct were honoured for their outstanding contributions.
These included members from the Detective Service, Visible Policing, Tracing Units, and specialised Task Teams.
Their relentless efforts have resulted in the successful tracing, apprehension, and arrest of numerous suspects linked to serious criminal offences.
Furthermore, their professionalism in the management and presentation of evidence in court has significantly contributed to the successful prosecution of offenders.
The charges involved ranged from murder, assault, possession of unlicensed firearms, to the possession and dealing in drugs.
Special acknowledgement was given to the Tshwane District Narcotics Task Team, who were praised for their relentless efforts in disrupting drug-related crimes.
Their operations led to the arrest of 350 suspects for possession and dealing in drugs, the recovery of eight stolen motor vehicles, and the confiscation of eight unlicensed firearms in the past year.
In his address, Major-General Samuel Thine commended all members for their unwavering dedication, selflessness, and commitment to the SAPS mandate of creating a safe and secure environment for all residents of Tshwane.
He emphasised that their hard work does not go unnoticed, and their continued efforts serve as an inspiration to their colleagues and communities.
Major-General Thine also extended heartfelt gratitude to the families of the SAPS members, acknowledging the sacrifices they make in supporting their loved ones who serve in demanding and often dangerous roles.

He stated that the members’ successes would not be possible without the understanding, patience, and encouragement from their families at home.
“It is through teamwork, sacrifice, and dedication that we continue to make strides in the fight against crime.
To the men and women in blue, and to their families, I extend my sincerest appreciation. Your service and commitment to protecting our communities are truly commendable,” concluded Major-General Thine.
