The South African National Parks (SANParks) successfully hosted an influencer and media excursion in Richtersveld National Park from 23 to 27 April 2027.
Situated in the remote north-western corner of South Africa along the Orange River, Richtersveld National Park forms part of the Richtersveld Cultural and Botanical Landscape, globally recognised for its exceptional cultural and environmental significance.
The area is renowned for its dramatic desert mountains, endemic biodiversity, and the living heritage of the semi-nomadic Nama people.
The excursion provided invited guests with an immersive experience of one of the country’s most remote protected areas, showcasing breathtaking landscapes, cultural heritage, and authentic conservation experiences.
Participants explored iconic sites, engaged with local communities, and experienced the rare opportunity to disconnect from modern distractions while reconnecting with nature.
A key focus of the initiative was to highlight Richtersveld as a leading example of inclusive conservation.
Through the co-management partnership between SANParks and the Richtersveld Community, the park demonstrates how conservation can deliver both environmental protection and meaningful socio-economic benefits to local communities.
Speaking on the initiative, SANParks noted that the excursion aimed to promote responsible tourism and celebrate the enduring connection between culture and nature in the Richtersveld.
Under the theme “Where Culture and Nature Endure:
The Living Heritage of the Richtersveld,” the campaign positioned the park as a destination where people and biodiversity thrive together.
SANParks remains committed to promoting sustainable tourism experiences that celebrate South Africa’s natural wonders while advancing community beneficiation and inclusive conservation.
