In light of ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula’s ultimatum to South Africa Communist Party members who are also members of the ANC to choose which side they will be campaigning for between the SACP and the ANC in the forthcoming local government elections elections, the SACP has announced a line of march to its members.

In a communique submitted to Tshwane Talks, the SACP said the following:

“The line of march is clear: every SACP member must remain calm, organised and politically focused; no disciplined Comrade must act individually under pressure; no Comrade must submit to intimidation and ultimatums or take strategic decisions affecting the SACP.”

The communique further states that the SACP will never accede to ultimatums from another organisation and that matters arising from the ANC manoeuvre must be handled collectively through SACP structures.

“We equally understand if some members decide to remain within the ANC and we respect that” said the SACP.

The SACP says it has never had a problem with the ANC contesting elections in its own right and that it has never regarded the ANC as an enemy for contesting elections in its own right.

“The SACP has never disciplined or threatened any of its members for participating in building the ANC as well as voting and campaigning for it,” said the SACP.

According to the SACP, the ANC has sought to turn a tactical difference into an administrative and disciplinary ultimatum directed at Communists inside the ANC.

“No amount of administrative enforcement can resolve a political crisis whose roots lie in the lived reality of the people,” said the party.

“The SACP therefore reaffirms clearly and without ambiguity that our decision to contest the 2026 local government elections directly under our own banner shall be carried out and we shall implement it without fear,” said the SACP.
