MKP Party national Spokesperson Sfiso Mahlangu
The issue of illegal foreigners is going to take centre stage in the forthcoming 4 November 2026 Local Government Elections.
Tshwane Talks had an opportunity to engage MK Party national Spokesperson Sfiso Mahlangu to get his party’s stance in this regard.
1. Does the MK Party adhere to the preamble of the Constitution which has been interpreted as a binding law that suggests South Africa belongs to all who live in it including foreigners and undocumented foreigners?
A. The MK Party recognises the constitutional values of South Africa, including the principle that South Africa belongs to all who live in it.
However, the party draws a clear distinction between lawful residents and undocumented immigrants.
The MK Party’s position is that all persons entering and residing in South Africa must do so legally and through proper documentation processes.
The party has publicly stated that it does not support illegal immigration or undocumented residency in the country.
2. What is MK Party’s opinion regarding prevalent protest marches that take place in some parts of the country against illegal foreigners?
A. The MK Party acknowledges that many South Africans are frustrated about unemployment, pressure on public services, crime and economic exclusion, which often fuel protests against illegal immigration.
At the same time, the party has condemned acts of violence, tribalism, and xenophobic attacks.
The MK Party maintains that immigration challenges must be addressed firmly, lawfully and humanely through effective border control, proper law enforcement and immigration management, rather than through vigilantism or attacks on communities.
3. Is the MK Party saying illegal foreigners must be given free health services, free education, jobs and housing opportunities?
The MK Party’s position is that South African citizens must be prioritised regarding access to jobs, housing opportunities and economic participation.
The party has repeatedly stated that undocumented immigrants should not benefit unlawfully from systems intended for citizens and legal residents.
However, the MK Party also supports compliance with constitutional and humanitarian obligations, particularly in emergency health care and basic human dignity matters, while advocating stricter enforcement of immigration laws.
4. Whio is MK Party’s Mayoral candidate in Tshwane regarding the forthcoming 4 November 2026 Local Government Elections?
A. The MK Party has not yet officially announced its Mayoral candidate for Tshwane for the upcoming Local Government Elections.
The party has indicated that preparations for the announcement are underway and will be communicated through appropriate party structures in due course.
5. Has the MK Party ever called for a debate in Parliament regarding the issue of illegal foreigners?
A. We have done so many times.
6. And what was the tangible solution that you proposed to Parliament regarding the issue of illegal foreigners?
A. It (the tangible solution) is in our policy papers which I will share with you once published.
