“Give me five more years to create jobs and opportuniyies; five more years to deepen investment and grow our economy: five more years to rebuild infrastructure and improve service delivery; five more years to strengthen safety and restore order and uphold the rule of law; five more years to build a government that residents can trust again,” said current City of Tshwane Municipality Mayor Dr Nasiphi Moya as she accepted the mandate from her party ActionSA to be its Mayoral candidate in the capital city.
ActionSA Tshwane Mayoral Candidate Dr Nasiphi Moya
Moya was given the said mandate at an ActionSA meeting held at the Nellmapius Library Hall, next to the township of Mamelodi on Saturday.
She implored residents to give her a clear mandate in the forthcoming 4 November 2026 Municipal elections so that she can implement her polices and plans unhindered as the Mayor.
At the moment Moya occupies the Mayoral position at the behest of coalition partners like the ANC and EF, both of whom have more seats in the City of Tshwane Municipal Council chambers than ActionSA.
This scenario obviously means Moya has to constantly look over her shoulder each time she wants to act on any matter to avoid stepping on the toes of the coalition partners.
At the meeting, Moya revealed that she was born and raised in a rural area in the Eastern Cape Province where she learned responsibility at an early age herding her family’s livestock.
She thanked her parents profusely for having encouraged her to take her academic education seriously though his father never had any formal education and her mother only passed Standard 2 (Grade 4) at school.
Dr Nasiphi Moya is a PhD graduate in Political Science from the University of the Western Cape and the title of her thesis is:
“The negotiated nation: Evaluating nation-building in post-Apartheid South Africa.”
“Mr President, Ntate Herman Mashaba, it is with deep humility, gratitude and a full heart that I accept the mandate to stand as ActionSA’s Mayoral candidate in the City of Tshwane Municipality because the Mayoral position is a profound responsibility; one that I carry with deep appreciation,” said Dr Moya in her acceptance speech.
Dr Moya is the first ever ActionSA Executive Mayor in South Africa and has been at the helm of the City of Tshwane Municipality for 18 months now.
“I believe government, at all levels, must create opportunities and that is why I entered public service, and that is why this forthcoming election is important to me,” she said.
She emphasised that “at its heart the forthcoming election is about whether more people can build better lives because no Mayor, no government can rebuild a city alone as progress in this regard depends on partnership between residents and businesses; investors and the City of Tshwane.”
She revealed that when she took the reins in the Mayor’s office in October 2024 she “inherited a City in crisis; the finances were unstable; the infrastructure was deteriorating and service delivery systems were falling.”
