The Security Personnel Party Of South Africa SPPSA notes with concern the recent request by DA leader Geordin Hill-Lewis for President Cyril Ramaphosa to reshuffle DA Cabinet ministers, including the proposed demotion of Minister John Steenhuisen.

We hold that the President of the Republic is the only person vested with constitutional authority to appoint and dismiss members of the national executive in terms of Section 91 of the Constitution. That authority must be exercised independently, in the national interest, and not as a tool to resolve internal political disputes of any single party.

President Ramaphosa should not be pressured or used as a pawn in the DA’s internal factional battles. Cabinet stability and decisive governance are too important to be traded for party political manoeuvring. South Africans need leadership focused on service delivery, safety, food security, and resolving crises like foot-and-mouth disease not on settling internal party scores.

SPPSA therefore condemns any attempt to coerce the President into making Cabinet changes driven by DA internal politics. We call on all parties in the Government of National Unity to respect the constitutional powers of the Presidency and to prioritise the mandate of the people above party factionalism.
