The 1994 dream is looking more like a 2026 nightmare.

As we hit 32 years of democracy, the big question is: What the hell are we actually celebrating?

Sure, the history books tell us that we are “free” and we have got the right to vote, we can live where we want, and we have got a Constitution that looks great on a shelf.

Yes, we are free from the pass laws, but we are prisoners in our own homes.

We are free from the apartheid police, yet our sisters and daughters are being hunted by monsters in our own communities.

Our rape and murder statistics are not just numbers – they are a national shame.

When a woman cannot walk to the shop without looking over her shoulder, she is definitely not free.

When a man cannot provide for his family because the economy is flatlining, his dignity is in chains.

Let us be real.

Political freedom is a hollow shell when your stomach is empty and your heart is full of fear.

Freedom is not just a mark on a ballot paper every five years.

Real freedom is a job.

Real freedom is a safe street.

It is time to stop looking at the posters of 1994 and start looking at the reality of 2026. We deserve better.
