Speaker of Council in the City of Tshwane
The Speaker of Council in the City of Tshwane, Cllr Mncedi Ndzwanana, extends
warm wishes to all residents of Tshwane and the people of South Africa on the
occasion of Freedom Day.
This day, commemorated annually on 27 April, marks a defining moment in our
nation’s history.
It signifies the dawn of democracy in 1994 and stands as a powerful
reminder of the end of apartheid and the attainment of freedom for all South
Africans.
It is a day that we must continue to honour, reflect upon, and cherish.
While we celebrate the political freedoms we have gained, including the
fundamental right to vote, we must never forget that the struggle for economic
emancipation continues.
Freedom Day also calls upon us to pay tribute to the many heroes and heroines who
sacrificed their lives in pursuit of liberation.
We honour their legacy not only in
remembrance, but through our daily actions, by respecting one another’s rights,
upholding democratic values, and actively participating in shaping the future of our
country.
As the country prepares for the upcoming local government elections, residents are
encouraged to exercise their democratic right to vote responsibly.
Active civic
participation is essential to safeguarding and advancing the freedoms we have
fought so hard to achieve.
