The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Gauteng condemns, in the strongest terms, the continued failure of the Gauteng Provincial Government to resolve its payment and application processes with scholar transport bus operators.

This lack of leadership, planning and foresight has left thousands of learners across the province without reliable transport to school going into the second week, thereby directly undermining their constitutional right to education.

On 5 February 2026, the EFF Gauteng, through its Provincial Chairperson, Commissar Nkululeko Dunga, attended a public meeting with concerned parents, learners, small bus operators and other stakeholders.

During this engagement, several critical issues were raised, including the fact that the Gauteng Provincial Government has made it a habit to delay payments to bus operators for work already rendered, for periods ranging between three (3) and four (4) months.

This occurs despite allocations having
already been made by the National Government, with the province routinely hiding behind so-called compliance and administrative issues as excuses for non-payment.

This crisis is a painful reflection of corrupt, greedy and selfish politicians who see no problem in gambling with the lives and futures of the children of the working-class, while their own children attend private schools and enjoy the best education money can buy.

The failure to resolve the scholar transport impasse is driven purely by greed, incompetence and a complete lack of empathy for the poor.

It is the same reason the provincial government has failed to build its own internal capacity to provide scholar
transport and to construct sufficient schools in and around our townships.

The EFF will continue to expose and confront the ANC-led government for its reckless and immoral conduct of gambling with the education and future of our children.

We will persist in exposing the deep-seated failures and corruption inherent in the tender system.

The EFF remains the only genuine political alternative committed to the
realization of free, quality education in our lifetime.
