Embattled City of Tshwane Municipality Deputy Mayor Eugene Bonzo Modise has come out with guns blazing after the DA in Tshwane laid charges of fraud against him last week.
The fraud case was opened last week by DA Tshwane Chief Whip Jacqui Uys accompanied by DA Tshwane leader Cilliers Brink.
Besides being the Deputy Mayor, Modise also serves as MMC for Finance in the Municipality.
Modise still insists that he is no longer the owner of Triotic security company which has received a security tender from the City of Tshwane.
But a leaked media report suggests that Modise has failed to produce proof that he is no longer the owner of Triotic security company and that he is still benefitting from the proceeds of the tender.
According to the law any person who works for the government or Municipality must not be involved in business contracts or tenders with the aforesaid entities.
The security contract of the City of Tshwane to various security companies including Triotic now amounts to more than half a billion rand yet, cable thefts, power cuts and robberies continue unabated at various City of Tshwane electricity substations and buildings, leading to frequent power outages.
It has also emerged that some security officers working for these security companies don’t have CCTV security facilities orveven guns; that they are compelled to literally run away when armed thugs come to rob or steal cables at buildings where they are stationed.
The DA has described these security officers as mere unarmed watchmen (machingilane in township lingo).
But Modise opines the DA’s decision to open a case against him is mere political theatrics and that there is no substance whatsoever in the whole matter.
“There is no case here and the whole exercise is a waste of SAPS resources at a time it (SAPS) is going through difficulties,” emphasised Modise.
“The enlistment of the services of Advocate Gerrie Nel by the DA in their case against me is merely to bring in a sensational tone to the matter, and because Advocate Gerrie Nel understands the law, he will not ruin his reputation by pursuing this unfounded claim,” said Modise as he in the process pointed out that it is impossible for Advocate Nel to involve himself in a Council matter which the DA didn’t want to see being tabled in the Council chambers after making a lot of noise in the media.
“Those who opened the case against me are going to regret doing so as they will get an appropriate response (from me) and will never again mess up with the reputation of an African,” fumed Modise.
“I will be going to the police station with my lawyer to clarify the matter as it doesn’t have any criminal element and I give you my word that I am going to teach them a lesson that they will never forget,” he vowed.
Meanwhile, the following social media post has been attributed to Modise, wherein he (Modise) apparently makes reference to unnamed ANC members who allegedly want to see him deposed from his position as ANC Chairperson in Tshwane and ultimately as the Deputy Mayor of the Municipality:
“When some members of your organisation convene a meeting with opposition parties and discuss your life and plot to destroy you, then your organisation is in deep trouble and God have mercy on the African National Congress.”
