The community and motorists working in the Pretoria Central policing precinct are urged to be cautious of new criminal trends that have emerged over the past weeks in the area as we head towards the festive season.

This warning comes after numerous complaints were reported to the Pretoria Central Police Station involving contact crimes such as common robberies, fraud and bogus salespeople.

A number of cases relating to car-jackings, theft of motor vehicles and other related crimes have been opened at the police station.

Reports have surfaced regarding a white quantum whose occupants lure unsuspecting commuters into the vehicle and rob them of their belongings and in some instances force them to reveal their ATM pin codes and withdraw their money, then drop them off in secluded areas.

Another burning issue is that of a white VW Polo whose occupants go around terrorising the local community.

Yet another burning issue is that a number of Toyota Cross, NP 200 and Hilux vehicles which have been reported as stolen.

One of the causes crime is there motorists often leave items like lap tops inside their vehicles while parked in secluded areas and we therefore urge motorists to take into account the fact that the Pretoria Central area has various secured parking areas which they can utilise to minimise vehicle-related crimes.

Pretoria Central Police Station Commander Brigadier HG Mashaba is pleading with the community to be more alert and not fall prey to the aforesaid criminal activities.

He said as we are heading towards the festive season and people are flocking to the inner city for preparation of festivities, criminals are Aliso taking advantage of the situation and targeting vulnerable groups as well as unsuspecting citizens.

The station is working tirelessly around the clock and has deployed members to various areas within the city where crime us prevalent.

For any criminal activities that might be taking place, the community is urged to report such incidents to the police and may remain anonymous if they so wish.
