Pretoria Central SAPS officials working tirelessly fighting crime
After SAPS received a tip-off about a rogue who was terrorising the community of Marabastad in Tshwane, Captain Nthuteng Mogotsi assembled his team quickly to trace the roguish character.
Mogotsi is the immediate commander of the Crime Prevention Unit at the Pretoria Central Police Station.
Upon arrival at the suspect’s hideout on the 6th floor of an abandoned building at Schubert Park around 10.30 am on Wednesday, the police team found a male who matched the description of the rogue in the company of his female acquaintance.
After ransacking the said hideout and searching the male suspect and his female acquaintance, a 9 mm Norinco pistol whose serial numbers had been wiped off was found in possession of the male suspect, together with two magazines and one live round of ammunition, as well as a toy gun hidden under a mattress.
A firearm found on the suspects
Further search operations in the hideout led to the discovery of drugs in possession of the female acquaintance.
This led to the immediate arrest of the couple, who were taken to the Pretoria Central Police Station for detention.
The male suspect is aged 19 and was formally charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and suspected stolen goods.
The female acquaintance was charged with possession of drugs.
Meanwhile, Pretoria Central Police Station Commander Brigadier Hlengane Mashaba has applauded the station’s crime response team for yet another astonishing arrest.
“This shows that members of the response team are united with the sole aim of fighting and eliminating crime,” said Mashaba.
Brigadier Mashaba also thanked whistle-blowers for their bravery and entrusting SAPS with the responsibility to trace and arrest the suspect and his acquaintance.
The two suspects will appear at the Pretoria Magistrate Court pending further ballistic investigations on the firearm.
