Civic Movement Soil if Africa has expressed what it calls “righteous anger” over the issue of hundreds of South African citizens whose Identity Documents have been blocked by the Department of Home Affairs, thus taking away their citizenship; turning them into nomads, preventing them from opening bank accounts and getting jobs, as well as making it impossible for them to be issued with vital documents like birth certificates and automatically disqualifying them from accessing social grants.
The following is an extract from a media statement released by Soil of Africa Chairperson Bongani Ramontja, ahead of a meeting which he held with victims of the blocked Identity Documents this past Sunday.
These victims live in various parts of the country like Nelspruit, Ekurhuleni, Limpopo and Tshwane.
