The congregation of Zion Christian Morning Star Apostolic church in Extension 5 Mamelodi east, Tshwane held a grand opening ceremony of their newly completed church building on 07 October 2023.

Bishop David Maeko cut the ribbon of the new building to officially mark the occasion and blessed the ceremony with a prayer before everyone could inside.

The congregations were joined by the other believers in Christ from different churches and community members at large to support the opening.

The church’s famous brass band entertained the congregation with popular soul touching tunes.

In the past, the congregation used a small shack with small space to pray and hold church activities but that has change.

Bishop David Maeko told Tshwane Talks that it took them seven years from foundation to roofing and it was a well-deserved celebration for all who were involved in making sure the construction was completed.

“It was all about having faith and trust in God and put him first in everything we do, and nothing is impossible without him and we thank and praise him,” he said.

Bishop Maeko said the church was started by his late parents in 1978 and they used a garage for praying sessions.

As the congregation grew, there was a need to acquire space to fit all the worshippers. Some years later they found this land and moved from the garage to the empty space of the land.

They first erected a shack and used it as church building until which has been operational until today when we are moving into a new building.

“We want to thank congregation, family and friends for the support all these years and the patience by not giving up and making the dream a reality,” he said.

Bishop Maeko said the vision of the church is to grow across Southern African borders and to continue to show the Lord’s actions and live by the words of God.

The words and actions of God has gotten us to where we are today,” he said.

Message to the congregation is that they must stay loyal to their faith, values which are guided by respect, integrity, humanity, love and honesty.

Pastor Thabo Maeko said he is so happy the church is finally finished, and they will never ever used a shack and now they have enough space to accommodate everyone.
