UOANE FAMILY IN MAMELODI EVICTED DESPITE MMC MALULEKA PROMISING TO PROTECT THEM

The Uoane family in Mamelodi East has been evicted from its home late last month, despite MMC Aaron Maluleka having promised them that he will protect them from being kicked out of the house.

Maluleka had made the promise on local community broadcaster Mams Radio two days before the Uone family was evicted from the home.

It is believed that the elder sister in the family, Pinky Uoane, who now goes by the surname Hlabiyago is the one who sold the house secretly to a lady known as Khabonina Masanabo of Ikageng Section in Mamelodi.

Pinky Uoane Hlabiyago has her own house in Soshanguve Block XX where she is married.

According to Samuel Lucas Uoane (58) who has been living in the house as the last born child in the family, his sister Pinky has been trying to sell the house since 2012.

The house is situated at 14703 Mashaba Street in Mamelodi East and Uoane had tried to mobilise the help of the community including that of the MMC to prevent his eviction from the house, but his attempts failed because on Friday 28 August this year he and his children were forced out of the house and have since relocated to the squatter camp area of Mamelodi East.

Responding to the family’s eviction, MMC Maluleka said the following:

“The Department has noted with concern alleged illegal evictions in Mamelodi and we would like to reiterate that residents facing eviction should seek help from relevant authorities and the City of Tshwane will provide further information once investigations into the matter have been concluded and the facts surrounding the matter have been established.”

At the time of publishing this story MMC Maluleka had not yet indicated whether investigations into the matter had actually started.
