STATEMENT ON THE NON-PAYMENT OF SECURITY PERSONNEL BY THE CITY OF TSHWANE AND ITS CONTRACTORS

The Security Personnel Party Of South Africa in Tshwane notes with disgust that to date, security personnel contracted to guard City of Tshwane facilities are still not being paid their salaries by their companies and/or the City itself.

These are the same workers who stand guard day and night to protect municipal buildings, reservoirs, substations and clinics.

Yet they go home to hungry children, unpaid rent, and loan sharks because companies deduct pension and UIF but fail to pay it over, and because the City keeps extending tenders without ensuring workers receive what is due to them.

We condemn the City of Tshwane for hiding behind “contractor disputes” while it continues to pay millions to security companies, some of whom are implicated in corruption and non-compliance.

You cannot claim to be fighting crime while the people guarding our assets are working hungry and unpaid.

SPPSA therefore demands:

1.Immediate payment of all outstanding salaries to security personnel.

2.The City must pay guards directly and pay contracted companies an administration fee.

This ensures workers are not held hostage by failing companies, while companies are still recognized for management and deployment.

3.We propose Co-Sourcing, not Outsourcing or Insourcing.

In this model everyone stands to benefit better: workers get paid timeously, companies remain operational, and the City retains oversight and accountability.

No community can be safe when the people protecting it are being exploited.

We stand in full solidarity with all security workers demanding what is rightfully theirs.
