Rama City in Ga-Rankuwa held a successful sports day event on Saturday for the benefit of the youth of the area.
Rama City Sports Committee chairperson Moses Matjeni told Tshwane Talks that the event entailed soccer and netball tournaments and teams from Atteridgeville, Damonsville, Madidi and Rama took part in it.
He pointed out that both sporting tournaments were designed only for boys and girls under the age of 16.

According to Matjeni, all participating teams were winners irrespective of the results in the sports field.
“All teams were in a way winners because by their mere participation they won themselves soccer jerseys, netball jerseys as well as trophies, gold and silver medals,” said Matjeni.
“The intention of this sports tournament is to keep the children away from bad influences and habits in the streets, stop substance abuse among the youth and strive to build our community through sports,” explained Matjeni.
He said the tournament is an annual event and has been in existence for five years now.
“To other communities we are saying that through these games we are trying to unite broken communities and also encourage healthy living among the youth,” said Matjeni.
In the final match of the soccer tournament, Danville beat Rama City 1-0, while in the netball tournament Madidi beat Rama 19 -10.

The Sports tournament was mainly supported by Ma H Legacy, which kicked off the sporting day event by donating toys and scooters to more than 100 childrens and also soccer balls and prizes for the sports day event which took place hereafter.
