Chairman of Dlalisa Moyeni foundation Bongani Skosana told the Tshwane Talks that the boy child program started in 2020 but because of Covid-19 we did not have physical contact with the boys, we focus more on the food drive.
In late 2021 we started to have physical contact with them, and we went to schools across Mamelodi, and we request ten boys from each school. We held weekly sessions with them teaching them about the aspect of life.
The Boy’s Conference, held amidst the looming onset of the 16 Days of Activism against Women and Children Abuse, emerged not as a mere echo of reactive measures but as a bold proclamation of proactive resistance. This gathering stood tall, refusing to be part of a culture that merely reacts to the symptoms, instead opting to strike at the roots of violence against the boy child.
“We want our boys to grow up and be better man and responsibly man in future and we teach them all aspect of life.
We teach them life skills, decision making, complete management, time management, career guidance and we prepare them to be mentally strong for life,” Skosana said.
He said the reason he started the program his experience of growing up in Kasi without a father and without proper guidance and he did not want these boys to go through the same things he went through.
We try to build foundation that is solid that can help them to be better responsible father.
“I’m here to share my expertise, my knowledge and resources with the boy child of my community.
We are calling for more boy child to come and join the program. The invitation is open, and we will make it work and we have come this far, and we’ve seen the great of God with us,” Skosana said.
Skosana said he encourages parents to be involved in their kids’ lives and it would mean a lot for the boy child. The conference aimed to heal the community by prioritizing the development of the boy child.
The conference became a fortress of knowledge, arming these young men not with weapons but with self-awareness, empathy, and the resilience to defy societal expectations.
Former Gauteng premier David Makhura said Dlalisa Moyeni has been running this program of boy child for 4 almost years.
“The program is very close to my heart and I’m very happy to be here and the foundation is doing a good work in helping a boy child.
I have a foundation also and I will partner with Dlalisa Moyeni foundation, and we will work together,” Makhura said.
Lethabo Hamese said he joins the program last year and it has helped him with a lot with aspect of life. They teach us lots of things amongst those were values, respect, believe in yourself, plan for your goal and manage your time.
“I did not have confidence in myself but after I join the program, I’m more confidence than ever and I can achieve anything I want and I want to thank the foundation,” he said.
