The 1976 youth fought for access to quality education.

Today’s youth fight for jobs, skills, and equality.

As South Africa commemorates their heroic stand, Donald Mokase carries that same mission in his heart.

The creative young founder launched Double D Creations after a knee injury forced him to pursue art full-time.

Born and bred in Tembalethu, Mpumalanga, Donald started drawing at a tender age.

With a Graphic Design qualification, he opened his first printing shop in Tembisa, then Kaalfontein and Mabopane.

Despite financial constraints, his faith and passion kept him going.

In 2019 he launched Double D Creations, offering everything from apparel to branded utensils.

What started as one man’s comeback has become a platform for Mzansi’s young blood.

Three times a year, Double D Creations hosts free promotional marketing events.

Local budding entrepreneurs gather at Mabopane station, Soshanguve Plaza to showcase and sell their creations.

No fees.

No barriers.

Just exposure.

On 31 March, the third edition called Double Up Sunday Market brought brands like Ruger Florentino by Kamogelo Mogale, Hoodkid Apparel by Xolani Mgidi, and Tsoga O Phande by Tlotlo Moshidi to the Double D Creations studio at Mabopane railway station.

On 31 May, it was the Double Up Street Complex Sunday Market.

The same entrepreneurs returned, joined by razor-focused associates: Bethuel Sefoka of Let It Be Apparel, supported by Urbancalas of Tsholofelo Butji.

The glittering youth function came to life when beauty queen and cakes queen Lebogang Akinsuru of Timbalebs Beauty Care and Yemlebscakes demonstrated her products and services.

The next Sunday Market edition is set for summer at the same venue, with the date to be announced.

Donald’s goal is clear.

“Our fervent wish is to promote and reposition local brands to compete with bigger expos like Proudly SA,” he says.

His impact goes beyond his own work.

He helped his younger brother start a graphic design enterprise and recruited junior designer Thabiso Makhubela.

His collaboration with Kamogelo Mogale has produced stunning products.

Clients like Xolani Mgidi of Hoodkid Apparel praise his craft and reliability.

Donald credits his family, community, and clients for the support.

His message to future graphic designers is simple: “Realize your talent, nurture it with passion, focus, and hard work, and you will yield sweet fruits.”

With an ambitious mindset, Donald plans to expand Double D Creations and create more jobs for young artists.

From a hospital bed to running expos, he’s proof that setbacks can set you up.

A living tribute to Donald Mokase the artist who turned his injury into an industry and his studio into a launchpad for the next generation.
