Congratulatory messages have poured in for the Tshwane Class of 2024 Matriculant after doing well in their examinations.
A message from Mayoral Spokesperson Zintle Mahlati reads as follows:
“The Mayoral Executive Committee congratulates Tshwane Matriculants who sat for the 2024 National Senior Certificate examinations.”
Mahlati said Tshwane schools performed well with several schools in the Tshwane South District repeating consecutive 100% pass rates as tracked for a period of five years from 2020 to 2024.
The City’s various districts performed as follows:
Tshwane West- 88,9%, Tshwane South- 91,7%, Gauteng North including areas under Region 7- 89%.
“These results are commendable and the Mayoral Executive Committee believes the performance reflects the City’s ethos of ‘igniting excellence.'” said Mahlati.
She said the act of sitting for a school exit examination is not easy and that the City of Tshwane Municipality acknowledges the various challenges that our children face daily that often impede their ability to perform in school.
“We wish the Class of 2024 the best for the future as they begin the journey of furthering their education or choosing other career paths and to the Matriculants who did not pass and those who are not happy about their results we wish you the best as you use 2025 as another chance to get it right,” said Mahlati.
Azanian People’s Organisation (AZAPO) education secretary Luyando Zweni said the following:
“AZAPO welcomes the release of the 2024 Matric results and congratulates the Class of 2024 because the pass rate has improved significantly at both National Senior Certificate and IEB levels.”
Zweni said their wish as AZAPO is for the IEB system to be replicated within the public education sector to ensure meaningful teachings at all schools.
“Many learners in the public education system are required to attend school daily in order to match their peers from the IEB system and the prolonged attendance without breaks may result in academic fatigue potentially affecting learners at tertiary level,” he said.
“Furthermore, we appeal to the government to address the NSFAS issue and provide necessary support to all qualifying learners,” said Zweni.
Tshwane Freedom Front Plus leader Grandi Theunissen told Tshwane Talks that although the results are encouraging, the worrying matter is that the fallout factor is still very high.
“36% of Grade 1s who started school in 2013 never got to grade 12 in 2024,” said Theunissen.
