The African Unite Borders Bus Trucks Association (AUBBTA) welcomes the resignation of MMC for Transport in the City of Joburg Kenny Kunene who did so to avoid further embarrassment amid serious police allegations against him.
As AUBBTA we note with concern that as MMC for Transport in the City of Joburg, Kunene has failed to shut down illegal bus ranks in Braamfontein, Johannesburg.
Be that as it may we have already already issued a 24-hour notice to the City of Joburg to enforce a court order to shut down all illegal bus ranks and hijacked buildings and failure to do so will result in us shutting down the whole of Gauteng Province, especially Johannesburg and raid all illegal bus ranks at our own risk if law-enforcement agencies fail us.
We would like to send a strong message to all politicians to refrain from being involved in criminal activities or facilitating for their friends to do criminal activities and giving them false hope that they will protect them by using their political careers.
We are calling on Mayor Dada Morero to appoint a new MMC for Transport in the City of Joburg within 24 hours from now.
And before appointing the new MMC for Transport, Mayor Dada Morero must verify the candidate’s criminal record.
Our first priority as AUBBTA is to close down all illegal bus ranks and hijacked buildings within the City of Joburg so as to prepare for the 2025 G20 summit in Johannesburg.
