City of Tshwane MMC for Corporate and Shared Services Kholofelo Morodi made an unannounced site visit to the City of Tshwane Municipal offices in Mamelodi on Thursday and discovered that there is a tendency by several workers there to report late for work.

“I took it upon myself to come to the Mamelodi Municipal customer services centre and upon my arrival at 7.30 am I found that staff members working in the Department of Housing, which deals with proof of residence and title deeds was closed as there was no one on duty, yet workers are supposed to be in office at 7.30 am and start working at 7.45 am,”said a disappointed Morodi.

“I then moved to the finance side where they deal with cash payments and found that there were no cashiers there either,” she said.

Morodi told Tshwane Talks that she found three grannies who had come to the offices as early as 6 15 am to apply for the poorest of the poor (POP) programme but there were no staff members to help them.

“As MMC for Corporate and Shared Services, human resources matters in the City of Tshwane Municipality fall under my jurisdiction and I will therefore be taking this late-coming issue up with the relevant line managers to make sure that there is consequence management against the implicated late-comers, and I will definitely be coming back to monitor this Mamelodi Municipal customer care centre and will give feedback to the community in this regard,” explained Morodi.

According to Morodi, manager Jan Jansen informed him that staff members working in the Department of Housing in the Mamelodi Municipal offices continuously don’t open on time and that this is a matter that she will talk to the various MMCs about.

“Residents of Mamelodi must be rest assured that this is something that I don’t take lightly because staff members are paid to work for 8 hours a day and it is unacceptable for them to open late as they are dealing with a crucial matter like the poorest of the poor programme,”she said.

She said she was very disappointed that people come to the offices at around 6am only to find out that there is no one to help them.
