The Pretoria Magistrates Court granted Suliman Carrim R100 000 bail with stringent bail conditions.
Failing to comply with the bail conditions the court will consider that as a breach of bail conditions, whereabouts a warrant of arrest may be issued for his arrest, he may be arrested, an inquiry conducted and he may be ordered to remain in custody until the finalisation of this matter.
Carrim is facing a charge of contravening section 6(1) of the Commissions Act 8 of 1947, by failing to appear before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
It is alleged that Carrim failed to appear before the Commission after he was warned to appear on 14 August 2026.
Following his alleged failure to appear, a criminal case was registered and investigated by the Commission’s Recommendations Task Team.
Carrim was subsequently arrested at the OR Tambo International Airport on 15 October 2026, shortly before he was due to board an international flight.
In court, the State opposed Carrim’s release on bail, arguing that he is likely to evade his trial and that he is a flight risk since he was arrested at the airport.
The matter was postponed to 08 December 2026 for disclosure of the docket.
