Reliable sources inside ActionSA and ANC in Tshwane have confirmed to Tshwane Talks that a motion of no confidence will be passed in Mayor Cilliers Brink come Friday.
According to the sources the motion is brought against Brink because of ill-treatment they have been subjected to by the incumbent mayor for a long time now.
Last week Tshwane Talks reported that Mashaba gave an interview on radio wherein he revealed that ActionSA will definitely end its “political marriage” with the Democratic Alliance in the City of Tshwane.
In the interview Mashaba alluded to the DA’s voting pattern in the 2023 election of the Speaker of Council which cost ActionSA the said position as votes by DA Councilors were declared null and void and Mncedi Ndzwanana emerged as the new Speaker instead of the preferred candidate as had agreed been agreed between DA and ActionSA.
“I am confident that come Friday Brink will be removed because ActionSA and EFF are going to vote with us,” said the ANC source who didn’t reveal the main reason for Brink’s imminent removal.
“Brink is definitely going to kiss the position of the mayor goodbye, and all that he can do now is to enjoy the luxury of bodyguards, blue lights and a fat salary for the last remaining days in office” he said.
At the moment DA has 69 seats, ANC 75, EFF has 23 and ActionSA has 19 seats in the City of Tshwane chambers.
Be that as it may, an ActionSa source told Tshwane Talks that come Friday Brink will be a thing of the past as he will be history must start packing up his bags now and give place to a new mayor.
“ActionSA and ANC held a behind-closed-doors meeting whereby both parties agreed that ActionSA will assume the position of mayor while the ANC will assume the position of the Speaker,” sadi the ActionSA source.
According to the source, all MMC position will be allotted to ActionSA while the ANC will be allotted all executive committee portfolio chairs.
The source further said that although ActionSA will be entering into a deal with the ANC, the ANC’s wish to bring back contracts of contracts whose services were terminated last month won’t be entertained.
The recently disqualified contractors include those who were doing business with the City of Tshwane in the spheres of waste removal and provision of water tanker.
Meanwhile, at a media briefing held today at Tshwane House mayoral boardroom City mayor Cilliers Brink said in the past 17 months the DA and other parties had made significant progress to move the capital city forward, we are taking action against the misuse of public funds disciplinary action where necessary, and our financial situation has improved and those are the building blocks for service delivery.
Brink revealed that ActionSA’s absence at the media briefing was conspicuous and very worrying.
He admitted that ActionSA’s absence and lack of commitment to the coalition creates uncertainty.
“It is important to note that if you bring down this government what do you bring in its place?” asked Brink rhetorically.
“Our message is to give ActionSA the opportunity to protect what we have built here; my party and the other party is here and are still committed to this coalition.
We believe it a sensuall we make every effort to try and save this situation,” he said.
He said if the present coalition in Tshwane is dismantled then that means ActionSA will have to work with the ANC and EFF, which is a party with a toxic influence as it has indicated so in the City of Joburg and other municipalities.
“As partners we want to protect our achievements as a coalition and we are still giving ActionSA to give their commitment to the Coalition in Tshwane,”.
