The Forum for South Africa (FOSA) has noted the Department of Home Affairs’ concerns regarding budget constraints and the shortage of personnel to effectively deal with illegal immigration.

While government continues to cite financial limitations, South Africa cannot afford further delays in enforcing its immigration laws and securing its borders.

FOSA is prepared to provide the Department of Home Affairs with 5,000 or more disciplined South Africans who are willing to assist in supporting lawful immigration enforcement and community-based operations under the supervision of the Department and other law enforcement agencies.

FOSA proposes that these individuals be placed on a 12-month stipend programme, allowing them to receive practical training, valuable work experience, and skills that will improve their future employment opportunities while contributing to the protection of South Africa’s borders.

This programme would achieve three important objectives:

– Strengthen the country’s response to illegal immigration.

– Create skills development opportunities for thousands of South Africans.

– Increase cooperation between communities and government in protecting South Africa’s sovereignty and upholding the rule of law.

FOSA believes South Africans are ready to be part of the solution.

Instead of allowing budget challenges to delay decisive action, government should embrace innovative partnerships that benefit both the country and its citizens.

FOSA therefore calls on the Minister of Home Affairs to engage with our organisation on this proposal so that, together, we can develop practical solutions to the challenges facing South Africa.
