Scholar transport association Rebabohle Mamelodi Education Transport Services has distanced itself from a letter circulating on social media which says that scholar transport won’t be operating on Wednesday.
Rebabohle Secretary William Molope told Tshwane Talks that the said letter can not be attributed to anyone as it has not been signed and therefore his association distances itself from the letter as it does not know who wrote it and also where it comes from.
“Even the organisation mentioned in the letter called ASETSA doesn’t know anything about the letter and I must point out that the letter doesn’t have a stamp, a letterhead and the signature of the person who wrote it,” explained Molope.
“Wednesday is a normal day and we are saying to parents that they must not panick but must prepare kids for school as usual, and scholar transport drivers (bo Malome) must also not panick but must go and pick up the kids in the morning as usual.
“Those who will try to prevent you from taking learners to school shall face the might of law-enforcement agencies and we won’t be involved when these agencies carry out their duties,” he said.
The unsigned, said letter circulating on social media partly reads as follows:
“Tomorrow (Wednesday) is going to be a hectic day for all scholar transport drivers and associations because the traffic department and the national office will be conducting stop -and-search operations and this will lead to traffic congestions on the roads, so in order to avoid the inconvenience we were advised by our association ASETSA to inform parents that we will not be able to fetch kids to and from school on Wednesday, and will only resume our duties in this regard on Thursday.”
The letter ends on a threatening note that reads as follows:
“Failure to adhere to this notice can lead to major consequences for all scholar drivers.”
