The City of Tshwane is pleased to update the residents of Region 4 regarding the ongoing repairs and procurement of the Kentron Pump.

Following a site inspection conducted this morning, we are moving with the necessary urgency to restore fullservice delivery to the affected community.

We recognise that behind every technical failure is a family struggling to cook, a student preparing for school, and an elderly resident facing unnecessary hardship.

Water is a fundamental right, and the current disruption is not just a logistical hurdle, it is a significant burden on your daily lives.

To minimise downtime, the City has accelerated the procurement process for the Kentron Pump through an accelerated and transparent framework.

Our technical teams have already engaged
with specialist suppliers to secure the fastest delivery of a replacement unit.

By prioritising these repairs, we are ensuring that the procurement phase is handled with the urgency this situation
demands.

In addition to the pump replacement, the city is continuing work on the critical pipe installation at Olievenhoutbosch Road.

Thus far core drilling has been successfully completed for pipe placement, and leaking water was successfully rerouted to allow for the construction of the second bridge access on the south side.

Starting Monday, 12 January 2026, teams will begin the installation of permanent brackets for the new piping infrastructure.

While the city has urged for an even earlier start date, this timeframe ensures that all safety and structural requirements are met for a sustainable solution.

We are working towards a completion date of Friday, January 16, 2026; however, we are doing everything in our power to beat this deadline.

We fully understand the urgency of this situation and the impact it has on your daily lives.

To keep the public informed of our progress and any potential hurdles, the
city will provide weekly status updates on both projects until full restoration is achieved.

Our priority is not just fixing a machine but restoring dignity and normalcy to every household affected by this outage. This project is not a “quick fix”.

By installing brackets and improving bridge access, we are ensuring that the Kentron infrastructure is reliable for the long term.

We thank the community for their continued patience and resilience.

  1. Yes general Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, s resilience will leave and indelible mark in the history of South Africa, his unwavering work ethic, fearless leadership, selfless, ethical leadership leaves us with no doubt, that such a leader to be rewarded with a higher positive in the police service.
It will be unfair and unwise to keep him as a provincial commissioner, though it will be extraordinary difficult for his successor to fill such big shoes.
Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi should be rewarded for the extra mile to go beyond the call of duty to protect us all irrespective of color, class or political affiliation.
