As the country commemorates Youth Month, the South African Police Service (SAPS) celebrates its dynamic and driven young men and women in blue who go above and beyond the call of duty in serving their communities.

Today, we introduce the nation to 33-year-old Constable Tramaine Fredericks, stationed at the Rapid Rail Police Unit (RRPU) in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape.

Being a passionate and purpose-driven member of the SAPS, Fredericks also serves as a trained hostage and suicide negotiator; a role she approaches with empathy and unwavering commitment since 2020.

When she’s not out in the field combating crime, Fredericks dedicates her time to academic pursuits and is currently studying towards her LLB degree.

She is also an avid sportswoman and represents the SAPS in both volleyball and practical pistol shooting.

Earlier this year, the SAPS hosted its national Practical Pistol Shooting Championship in Eastern Cape.

More than 100 members from across the country participated in various categories.

At this championship, Fredericks won a SILVER medal in Category D for ladies and a BRONZE medal in the overall ladies team event while in the Support Team event, Fredericks and her team from Eastern Cape came first.

In July 2025, Fredericks will represent the SAPS at the Inter-Forces Practical Pistol Shooting Championship, hosted by the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) in False Bay, Western Cape.

Wearing a marksmanship badge with pride, Fredericks continues to hone her skills and confidence with regular practice and training.

Having joined the SAPS in 2012, Fredericks’ dedication, versatility, and youthful spirit serve as an inspiration to both her peers and seniors.

“There is no recipe to success, but with hard work, dedication and passion anything is possible.

Whatever you pursue in life, do it with all you have,” says Fredericks.

As we celebrate Youth Month, the SAPS salutes young police officers like Constable Tramaine Fredericks, whose fresh perspectives, innovative thinking, and boundless energy continue to shape the future of policing in South Africa – towards a safer, more secure nation!
