The Matsidikanye Moswane foundation together with the community of ward 23 and other volunteers joined hands and cleaned up illegal dumping in the area on Saturday morning in Mamelodi east, Tshwane.

More than 50 volunteers cleaned the illegal dumping in section SNS near the Rumani sport grounds.

The volunteers started to clean early at dawn and ended in the afternoon.

The foundation was joined by Mamelodi Nellmapius and Eersterust stakeholder’s forum.

Founder of the foundation Matsidikanye Moswane said that “we decided to do a mini launch by cleaning up the illegal dumping in the area.

This is the first ever event of the foundation as we are new kid on the block, and we want to make a difference in the community.

The reason I chose cleanup campaign is that I saw that there are lots of illegal dumping in Mamelodi and our beautiful township is getting dirty every day due to the ongoing strike by the municipality workers and our residents are living under unhealthy environment.

“My heart bleed and it pains me and I want to see our township back to its former glory and no illegal dumping and our people must live in a clean environment and not worrying about illness and other diseases,” Moswane said.

Maisela Moselakgomo said they are here to support a good course in the community and the founder saw it fit to start cleaning up the street of Mamelodi.

We must teach our people not to litter.

It is also frustrating because when the bin is full it must be taken elsewhere, and people don’t have transport to take rubbish to Heatherly dumping site and that is why they do this.

“We are appealing with our people to please stop littering we know this is a difficult time and we can’t stay with full bin in the yard but let us try to dump at the correct dumping site,” Moselakgomo said.

  1. It’s a good initiative that communities start taking responsibility regarding their unhealthy environment because this will affect their health conditions.
