In the early hours of Sunday, 23 November 2025, at approximately 02:15, members of SAPS Atteridgeville were conducting crime-prevention patrols when they received information about a white Mazda Rustler that had been hijacked in Pretoria West and was reportedly heading towards the Atteridgeville area.

The members strategically positioned themselves along an access route leading into Atteridgeville.

Shortly thereafter, the hijacked vehicle was spotted and the police attempted to stop it.

The suspects ignored the instructions, sped off, and a high-speed chase ensued.

On Tlou Street, near Nkomo Village, Atteridgeville, the suspects abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot while firing shots at the police.

The officers returned fire, during which both suspects were injured and subsequently apprehended.

The suspects, aged 27 and 28, received medical attention on the scene before being transported to hospital under police guard.

Crime Scene Experts processed the scene, where a firearm was recovered from one of the suspects.

The pair have been charged with possession of a hijacked vehicle, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, as well as attempted murder.

Investigations are ongoing to determine whether they and the recovered firearm may be linked to other criminal activities.

Tshwane District Commissioner, Major-General Samuel Thine, commended the members for their swift response and commitment to combating crime.
