Following a letter by the Democratic Alliance’s (DA) attorneys, the speaker of the Tshwane council has committed to tabling an investigative report on the business dealings of ANC deputy mayor and finance MMC Eugene Modise at Thursday’s council meeting.

Tshwane mayor Nasiphi Moya has been sitting on this report since September.

In the meantime excerpts of the report, which confirm Modise’s culpability, have leaked to the media.

Yet Moya has not only stonewalled the release of the report, she has also failed to act on its findings, keeping Modise in the critical financial portfolio on her mayoral committee.

The DA believes that Modise’s failure to disclose and divest his interest in Triotic Protection Services amounts to fraudulent conduct.

To lodge a case with the police, we need a copy of the report.

Given Moya and Modise’s stonewalling on this issue, we will only believe the Speaker’s commitment that the report will be tabled in the council once we see it.

If the report is in fact tabled in the council meeting, we will also be comparing it with the versions that have been leaked to see if the findings have in the meantime been manipulated.

The Modise episode has confirmed that Mayor Moya is powerless in the government that she is supposed to lead, effectively serving as an ActionSA front for the ANC.
