City of Tshwane to resume bus operations from Monday 23 October, those are the words of MMC of roads and transports Katlego Mathebe issued a statement on Sunday to all commuters who use Tshwane bus. The city has taken all necessary safety measures to boost security and trust that these will keep their bus services on the road.
Following continuous bus service interruptions due to the ongoing illegal strike action, the city is pleased to inform commuters that Tshwane Bus Service (TBS) and A Re Yeng services will resume operations from Monday, 23 October 2023.
MMC of roads and transports Katlego Mathebe said we will ensure the safety of our commuters, bus drivers and the City’s transport infrastructure, the city alongside the security cluster which includes support from South African Police Service (SAPS), Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD), Crime Intelligence, and private security have put up measures to oversee the efficient running of bus operations. Bus operations will commence alongside the deployment of police and technology in the CBD and other areas across the city.
“We welcome the commitment from the security cluster as this will go a long way to ensure that the safety of our drivers and commuters is not compromised,” MMC Mathebe said.
She said Tshwane views the absence of a reliable public transport service due to the illegal strike action as unacceptable. Many of our residents depend on the City’s bus service to get to places of work, school, and business.
It must further be made clear that anyone engaging in any acts of violence, threats, and intimidation against those that are committed to carry out their duties will be in contempt of the permanent court order and will be viewed as a furtherance of an illegal strike.
“We will continue to monitor the operations closely and encourage that the security cluster continue to intensify efforts to ensure that perpetrators of criminal actions and intimidation face the full might of the law.
“I would also like to assure commuters that they will not lose any points or credits as their connector cards only deducts when they take a ride,” she said.
