The Tshwane City Council has today approved the establishment of a 3.9% Economic Growth Advisory Committee to provide expert guidance and support in implementing the Tshwane Economic Revitalisation Strategy (TERS).

Established in terms of Section 17(4) of the Municipal Systems Act, the Committee
will be composed of individuals who are not councillors and who bring professional expertise across the ten priority clusters of the City’s economic strategy.

The TERS, adopted earlier this year, sets an ambitious target to drive average
economic growth of 3.9% per annum between 2025 and 2029.

Achieving this goal will require coordinated action across government, the private sector, and civil society.

The Advisory Committee will serve as a non-partisan,multidisciplinary to help make this collaboration a reality and play a vital role in supporting evidence based, high-impact decision-making.

It will provide structured advice on economic opportunities, policy risks, and mechanisms to improve coordination.

If implemented in full, the Tshwane Economic Revitalisation Strategy is expected to inject approximately R41.5 billion into the local economy and create an estimated 80 000 new jobs by 2029.

The Advisory Committee will be key to ensuring that the City is equipped with the knowledge and insights needed to unlock this potential.

This is a bold and necessary step in building a business-friendly City, where economic growth translates into real opportunities for residents.

By bringing the right minds to the table, we are strengthening our ability to deliver on our mandate and unlock
Tshwane’s full potential.
