The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) had several successes from 14
December 2023 to date.

Members of the TMPD Drug Unit have arrested two Nigerian drug dealers. One was arrested in Pretoria North, where he was found with crystal meth and kat with an estimated street value of R12 000.

The other was arrested in Pretoria West; he was in possession of kat with estimated street value R10 000.

Tshwane Metro police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said on 16 December 2023, the same unit responded to a complaint about suspects who were wanted for murder in New Eesterust near Hammanskraal.

The officers spotted the vehicle at a petrol station with two suspects inside.

The suspects were apprehended and the vehicle searched.

The officers found a firearm with 17 rounds of ammunition.

The serial number of the firearm had been scratched off.

It was also discovered that the vehicle had been hijacked and the driver shot.

“Both suspects were arrested for possession of an unlicenced firearm and a hijacked vehicle,” Mahamba said.

He said in a separate incident, members of the TMPD Cable Theft Unit attended a multidisciplinary operation that was conducted in Soshanguve.

During the operation, two suspects were arrested.

One male suspect was arrested for possession of suspected stolen property (copper cables) and another suspect was arrested for damaging and tampering with essential infrastructure and for illegal immigration.

“Members of TMPD will be on the streets working this festive season,” he said.

Mahamba said the successful operation continued to 16 December 2023.

Members of the TMPD Cable Theft Unit members arrested one suspect, a Zimbabwean national, for possession of suspected stolen goods, copper and fibre cables and for illegal immigration.

Members of the TMPD Tactical Unit also had a successful operation when they responded to a complaint about a suspect who was in possession of an illegal firearm at a house in Menlo Park and who was terrorising the neighbourhood.

Upon realising that there were police officers outside his house, the suspect fled and a chase ensued.

“The TMPD will continue with these operations throughout the festive season.

Well done to the TMPD members for their hard work and dedication,” Mahamba said.

He said the suspect dropped the firearm and it was confiscated.

Other successes include arrests for drunk driving that were made on 15 and 16 December 2023 during a joint operation conducted in the
Bronkhorstspruit area where the alcohol bus was used.

“13 arrests for drunk driving were made and 155 infringement
fines were issued.

Two illegal immigrants were arrested,” he said.
