Two males arrested for cable theft in Hercules photos supplied
The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) Cable Theft Unit successfully arrested two suspects in connection with stolen copper cables and bribery after receiving a tipoff from a member of the public in Hercules on Tuesday, 3 March 2026.
Acting on information received about a scrapyard suspected of buying stolen copper cables, officers from the Cable Theft Unit promptly conducted a search at the establishment.
Copper cables were found hidden inside maize meal bags during the search.
The scrapyard owner failed to provide a valid explanation or documentation for the possession of the copper cables, leading to his arrest.
While transporting him to the local police station, officers were intercepted by an African male driving a Ford Ranger who attempted to bribe them with R5 000 to release the arrested suspect.
The individual was arrested on charges of bribery, and both suspects were detained at the local police station awaiting court appearance.
The Chief of Police, Commissioner YCR Faro, commends the officers involved for their diligence and commitment.
She also highlighted the significance of community cooperation in combating crime, emphasising that such partnerships are crucial for the success of law enforcement efforts.
