The voices of grassroots organisations are threatening to any government the world over.
Any post-colonial elite will always try to discredit such grassroots groups because such groups have the ability to mobilise people around certain themes.
Sooner than it can be realised these elites will resort to the propaganda tactic of “name-calling” in reference to the grassroots groups.
This as an attempt to discourage their movement, and in the current situation words like ” xenophobic” and “fools” are bandied about and other derogatory terms like “anarchists” are likely to emerge.
Others still will throw in equally demeaning terminology like “lumpen revolutionaries.”
Usually such terms do not deter these grassroots movements.
The fear of these groups by the powers that be and their supporters is that they can be efficiently organised.
This exposes the arrogance of the elite who assume they have the monopoly to “problem-solving” even when they have nothing to offer at all except to demand that all people must follow government channels.
Indeed, the authorities would love these groups to be contained, but once these groups get organised, they get the buy-in from the masses.
This as what they stand for reveals the burdens felt by the collective masses of the citizenry.
The revelation of, and campaign around, these social problems could ignite a social rebellion, and this will spell the collective failure of successive ANC administrations.
The lie about having brought about freedom to the people and the tired propaganda about “a better life for all” have now totally been exposed.
In one of the protest marches in the East Rand recently, a protestor can be seen with an apparel inscribed with the slogan “Cyril Must Fall.”
This clearly tells of how much people on the ground have on their list of grievances.
