The City of Tshwane has effectively addressed the challenges posed by the relentless heavy rainfall that began on Sunday, 16 February 2025.

This surge in adverse weather prompted the South African Weather Service to issue an initial Yellow Level 2 warning for disruptive rain across much of Gauteng, including Tshwane.

Subsequently, a series of escalating alerts culminated in an Orange Level 6 warning on Wednesday, 19 February 2025.

In response to this heightened alert status, the City Disaster Operations Centre (City DOC) was activated without delay.

Its primary function was to monitor severe weather conditions, coordinate responses to related incidents, and mobilize necessary resources for community-reported emergencies.

Residents of Tshwane, particularly those residing in low-lying areas or flat plains—were consistently urged to remain vigilant and heed warnings regarding the disruptive rains.

The City expresses gratitude to its communities for their cooperation with these alerts issued by our Emergency Services Department.

Collaborative efforts among various City departments through the City DOC have been instrumental in ensuring
resident safety and information dissemination.

The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) acted decisively to close roads proactively, thereby safeguarding motorists and pedestrians from navigating hazardous waters—particularly around low-lying bridges and other flooded zones.

While adverse weather patterns may have diminished temporarily, the City of Tshwane’s Emergency Services Department remains vigilant through ongoing monitoring conducted via the City DOC.

Our teams—including fire rescue operations—are poised for any emergent situations that may arise.

Residents are strongly encouraged to stay informed about short-term weather forecasts along with any alerts disseminated by the South African Weather Service or credible sources while adhering closely to recommended safety measures.

When reporting emergencies, maintain composure; communicate clearly while providing precise location details along with accurate contact information.

We implore communities within the metro to remain vigilant amidst continuing disruptive weather conditions while promptly reporting all emergencies—including fires, floods or downed power lines — by calling toll-free at 107 or alternatively contacting us at 012 358 6300/6400.
