The African National Congress (ANC) Greater Tshwane Region firmly rejects and unequivocally condemns the latest campaign of political expediency mounted by the Democratic Alliance (DA).
The DA’s reckless motion of no confidence in the Speaker of Council is nothing more than calculated political grandstanding, a desperate attempt to play to the gallery and launch a direct assault on the stability of the Tshwane Municipal Council.
Their opportunistic posture regarding the Speaker is marred solely by a targeted campaign that seeks to destabilize council governance and directly sabotage the restoration of service delivery to the residents of Tshwane.
When the ANC-led coalition stepped in to stabilize the city’s collapsing treasury, it inherited a catastrophic wreckage left behind by eight years of DA mismanagement, maladministration, and blatant corruption.
It was under the DA’s tenure that the Auditor-General of South Africa (AGSA) flagged damning, unprecedented adverse findings that exposed a severe crisis in administrative leadership.
At the helm of this collapse was the DA-appointed City Manager, who presided over the administration with complete impunity while driving the city to the absolute brink of financial bankruptcy and leaving basic service delivery at an all-time low.
After eight years of DA ruin, the City of Tshwane is finally back on a sustainable trajectory toward change, accountability, and growth.
In just 19 months under the ANC-led coalition, the city has successfully navigated off the greylist, stabilized its municipal finances, and restored order to administrative governance.
Furthermore, the ANC stands resolutely with the Council’s decision to suspend the DA-aligned City Manager.
While we acknowledge recent court decisions that do not agree with the suspension, the ANC retains its legal right to appeal to a higher court and secure a new legal opinion to defend the authority of Council and protect the people of Tshwane.
The ANC-led coalition will continue to do the hard work of fixing the DA’s eight years of corruption, malfeasance, and incompetence, and we will not be deterred by weekend braais and little marketing gimmicks designed to manufacture artificial social relevance.
The ANC does not go into the townships wearing costumes just to appear relatable to our people.
Those working-class neighborhoods are our homes, and we live side-by-side with the very communities that the DA neglected for years on end.
We remain unshakable in our mandate to deliver a clean, working, and equitable capital city for all.
